More Than a Name: A Purposeful Choice; Rooted in Meaning

When naming this brand, I wasn’t just looking for something cute or catchy—I wanted something with weight, symbolism, and enough staying power to age well.

Naturally, I started with the go-to vocabulary that often circles discussions about Autism—words like spectrum, difference, equity, and inclusion. Important, yes. Unique? Not so much. The more I used them, the more it felt like I was blending into the background of every other curriculum title out there.

So I pivoted. I started digging for words with similar meaning or adjacent vibes, but with a little more spark—and that’s when “montage” caught my eye. A beautiful, layered word that evokes storytelling, emotional depth, and individuality coming together to form something greater.

Next, I needed the name to roll off the tongue like it belonged on a bookshelf and in a professional development PowerPoint. I reflected deeply on the curriculum’s purpose—how it guides students in the manner we treat one another. That led me to “Montage Manner.”

I proudly shared the name with my husband, who tilted his head and asked, “Do you mean manner or manor?” And just like that, the lightbulb went off. Montage Manor.

Suddenly, the whole vision came together—a manor representing a safe, nurturing space where each student’s unique emotional journey (their “montage”) is embraced, respected, and honored. The two words together perfectly capture the heart of my brand.

The goal of Welcome to Montage Manor is to provide a meaningful instructional resource that administrators, counselors, and specialists can use for professional development, while also offering teachers a classroom text that supports genuine student learning—not simply a book to admire.
